Full-Time Line Cook & Pastry Cook

We are currently searching for a full time line cook and a full time pastry cook.

Both positions involve working prep and service shifts, 11am-closing, 5 days a week. Our cooks are involved with every dish at every stage, from receiving ingredients and butchering whole animals to final plating during service, from planning the next day’s bread bake to figuring out how to fine-tune the cake on the current dessert.

With a menu that changes weekly and a kitchen that embraces both modern and very traditional techniques, this is a work environment that will challenge and reward committed, intelligent cooks looking to develop their skills and broaden their horizons.

We pay competitive rates, we set fixed schedules well in advance (none of this “finding out your schedule for the week on Sunday” schtick), and we provide full health insurance on the company dime. To apply, please respond by email, with a cover letter and resume.

Full-Time Back Server (Summer Position)

We are currently searching for a full-time backserver. This will be a summer position, with the potential to transition into a longer-term placement.

We are hiring to support the restaurant as some of our servers pursue other summer opportunities, and to continue to expand our potential for exceptional service for our guests.

Back servers at Journeyman will be expected to clear and re-set tables between courses and between turns, polish flatware and glassware, pour water, brew coffee and tea, and occasionally (as knowledge and training merit) serve dishes or beverages.

All servers are compensated with a share of the evening’s pooled tips, as well as hourly wages. Healthcare is available for full-time employees. We believe in holistic support of our employees and offer short and long-form trainings on all sorts of topics regularly (from quick wine tastings through special guests on subjects as diverse as oyster growth around the Cape or seed to cup coffee bean preparation and improv exercises to build server team communication and interaction).

You may be the right person for this job if you are passionate, intelligent, and interested in a work environment that is cheerfully challenging every single night. Back server shifts are generally 6 hours long, and you will be scheduled up to 6 days/week (though getting cut is a peril of the industry, particularly during summer vacation season). Schedules are posted monthly, so that we can avoid the weekly scramble to trade shifts.
