Campbell sketching blueprints for Journeyman

We got final blueprints from Campbell for the building permit application today. Seeing them is a bit like the proverbial platonic backrub – awfully nice, but you can’t help thinking that there’s potentially something more exciting out there. The building permit drawings show the bones of everything – plumbing, electrics, gas, the holes in the roof, the walls you’re tearing down, that kind of thing. What they don’t show is anything of the finish, which is what you see when you walk into a restaurant. The polish on the concrete floor. The reclaimed wood. The sensual experience guests remember. This is work. This is renovation costs and timelines and compliance with code. But there’s still something thrilling about seeing, for the first time, the exact location of the floor drain you’ll be mucking out every week from now on.
